Namibia has banned Boeing B737 MAX 8 airplanes from landing and taking off at any national airport. We have decided to take precautionary action to ban the arrival or departure of any Boeing B737 MAX series aircraft from Namibian airports at this time, the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Executive Director of Civil Aviation, Angelina Simana said in a statement issued Tuesday. The NCAA will however still permit aircraft to use Namibian airspace without landing.

Namibia as a contracting state to the Chicago Convention still observes the mandate under Article 10 of the aforementioned convention to grant all aircraft permission to cross Namibian territory with landing, Simana explained. She said the decision follows two fatal crashes involving the Boeing B737 MAX series aircraft ( MAX 10: US$134.9 million for one single unit ) since October 2018 under unclear circumstances which are disturbingly similar, although not yet finally defined by the ongoing accident investigations.

In the first crash, an Indonesian airliner crashed into the sea with 189 people on board. The Boeing 737, owned by the low-cost airline Lion Air, went down after taking off from the capital Jakarta. The latest accident occurred on Sunday, when an Ethiopian Airlines aircraft crashed en route from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to Nairobi, Kenya, killing all 157 people on board.

Air Namibia (SW) is the government owned national airline of the Republic of Namibia. Primary cities in the the southern part of Africa are served from the airline's headquarters city of Windhoek plus international service to Frankfurt. The Air Namibia Airbus A330-200 is used on long-haul intercontinental flights. The aircraft is configured with 30 fully lie-flat Business Class seats and 214 standard Economy Class seats. Each seat features access to listening and video in-flight entertainment.
