Cultural Colonialism
Cultural colonialism is the desire of wealthy nations to control other nations' values and perceptions through cultural means, such as media, language, education and religion, for their own economic reasons. Cultural colonialism eventually leads to the foreigners' ways of being regarded as the better way and being held in a higher esteem than previous indigenous ways. Cultural Imperialism is the practice of artificially injecting the culture or language of one culture into another's sovereignty society.Neocolonialism
It defined as a use of economic, political, cultural, or other systematic pressure to control or influence other countries, especially former colonies. According to scholarly resources and schools of thoughts: Neo-colonialism refers to the indirect control of the nations by their former colonial masters and this can be done socially, politically and economically.Etymology: Neo-colonialism started immediately after the decolonization of African and Asian nations. The neocolonism is a smart move to keeps the previous state quo intact, so that colonial administrators’ interest would not be jeopardized by the transfer of power. One of the methods was to prepare the ground for the creation of puppet leaders by involving leaders of national movements into colonial government. The term neo-colonialism was coined by Ghanaian president Kwame Nkrumah, to describe the socio-economic and political control that can be exercised economically, linguistically, and culturally, whereby promotion of the culture of the neo-colonist country facilitates the cultural assimilation of the colonized people and thus opens the national economy to the multinational corporations. The modern tools of cultural indoctrinations are the alternative methods to secretive recruitments.
Chevening Program
In 1983 the British government created Chevening as an international award scheme aimed to propagate British culturalism and create what known as “global leaders.” This white-washing scheme is funded and directed by the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) which includes both scholarships and fellowships for individuals selected by British embassies around the world. The main objective of these schemes is to plant marionettes through indoctrination of state actors who will then allow them to interfere/intervene in the internal affairs of other countries. The strategy is far deeper than even the most vigilant observers can't detect the assimilation they undergo. The agents of influence can serve British interest in various pro and antagonist movements, peace campaigns, strikes, and so forth. The Chevening candidates are selected among intellectuals, media personalities, artists, activists and meritious academics. The Chevening website itself states:
Chevening Awards are an important element in Britain’s public diplomacy effort and bring professionals, who have already displayed outstanding leadership talents, to study in the UK. The objective of Chevening is to support foreign policy priorities and achieve FCO objectives by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers.
Chevening offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.In frank terms, Chevening is a sophisticated tool to produce agents of British influence worldwide through the indoctrination of foreigners. The Chevening is another platform furthering imperialism stance which is similar to the ancient Roman (Tacitus. AD 56 – after 117) where Rome empire pacified foreigners and extend its sociocultural and institutional influence over conquered lands. Romans engaged in sophisticated cultural colonisation. The Roman Empire brought many young and brave people to Rome for the indoctrination. Majority of them would certainly and dutifully pursue Roman cultural colonisation upon returning home, some simply used the opportunity to understand the inner workings of their oppressor on a deeper level. Their intimate knowledge of the Roman Empire and the tactic of enslavement they used gave rise to some of the most disruptive and persistent rebellions that eventually contribute to Rome’s ultimate collapse.
In Thailand, as an acute example: English commentator Pravit Rojanaphruk, was selected by Chevening program in 2001-2002 program, while he was a journalist, and afterwards, his works entirely consist of political commentary and bias that couched behind activism and coupled with overtly pro-American and European editorials expounding notions of Western democracy and human rights. He regularly agitates against the Thai government which led the government to be ousted by the US-European backed political party of Thaksin Shinawatra in 2014.
When his agitation attracts legal prosecution, the staff from the British and American embassies as well as representatives from the European Union and Canadian diplomatic missions in Thailand came on his aid.
Young African Leadership Initiative
President Obama addresses participants in the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.
Chevening alumni and Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) are nothing more but the indoctrination of young people from the third world to become worshipers of Queen Elizabeth's crown, perceiving the United States as the land of hope and persistently act as an agent of imperialism monopoly and its neocolonialism like Pravit Rojanaphruk, the Chevening has created.
For people across the developing world, such “opportunities” seem like a ladder to heaven since their cognitive dissonance and confusion have insulated them from ever seeing the truth about those programmes they undertaking. A well-informed society shall never defect whenever exposure to foreign indoctrinations and it may help the Patriots to learn the well-placed tricks which they will use against the neo-colonial structures.
I should attest that is very extremely difficult for people in the developing world like Africa to refuse foreign enticement and cultural indoctrination that come in the forms of golden opportunities like free education, fellowships which not even their own governments could provide to them. Every day Africa lost a brilliant child at sea. Over 10,000 African people have died on the Mediterranean sea trying to flee a political passiveness in the continent and the rule of nepotism that forced them to embark on the dangerous journey to Europe to seek good opportunities.
Who will reject the Chevening scholarship scheme even though yourself knew that it is an enticement to furthering British influence and neocolonialism, but you are given a free education?
